Why Puma chose Dystinct and his moroccan identity

For decades, the PUMA Suede has moved across generations and creative communities, from athletes and musicians to dancers, skaters and artists. Rather than adapting to every trend, the silhouette has built its legacy by remaining closely connected to the people shaping culture in their own way.
For its latest "Never Not Suede" campaign, PUMA Middle East looked to a regional artist whose journey reflects that same philosophy. The brand partnered with Moroccan-Belgian musician DYSTINCT, making him the first regional artist to lead one of its campaigns in the Middle East.
Instead of building the campaign around celebrity alone, PUMA chose to explore the different influences that define DYSTINCT's creative universe through three interconnected worlds: music, fashion and sport.
According to Jonathan Bannister, Head of Marketing at PUMA Middle East, the collaboration was driven by more than the artist's growing international success.
"DYSTINCT has and continues to build his own legacy by bringing together different cultures, languages and creative influences while staying true to himself and his origins. That authenticity made him the right partner for this campaign, and together we've created a story that feels true to both him and the legacy of the Suede."
The first world focuses on music, recreating a retro-inspired studio filled with stacked speakers, vinyl records and references to DYSTINCT's artistic journey. Paired with the classic black Suede, the environment reflects the sounds, cultures and experiences that have shaped his career.
The second world turns to fashion, where Moroccan heritage becomes part of the visual language of the campaign. Inspired by Moroccan streets, layered textures, traditional patterns and fabrics, alongside influences from across the Gulf, the set explores how DYSTINCT expresses his identity through style. The coffee brown Suede accompanies a world where cultural references are integrated into the creative direction rather than treated as decorative elements.
The final chapter celebrates sport, highlighting DYSTINCT's connection to football and the sense of community surrounding the game. Jerseys, flags, trophies, match posters and memorabilia inspired by Moroccan football culture come together with the bold orange Suede to represent the passion, pride and collective experiences that continue to shape his relationship with sport.
Beyond DYSTINCT's story, the campaign also expands to the wider creative communities that have defined the Suede over the decades. Through a series of social films, PUMA Middle East spotlights dancers, skaters, DJs, graffiti artists and fashion creators from across the region, each sharing their own perspective on self-expression and creativity.
Rather than presenting identity as a single narrative, the campaign embraces the idea that artists are shaped by multiple influences. In DYSTINCT's case, music, fashion, football and Moroccan culture are not separate chapters of his life, but interconnected worlds that continue to define his artistic voice.
As international brands increasingly seek authentic cultural storytellers, PUMA's latest campaign reflects a broader shift. Artists are no longer simply appearing in campaigns. Their identities, communities and creative journeys are becoming the foundation on which those campaigns are built.
